Abstract
1316758 Calendering HERMANN BEBSTORFF MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. 9 June 1970 [10 June 1969] 27767/70 Heading B5A A method of reducing the time spent by material immediately upstream of a nip in a multi-roll calender, comprises forming the material in the nip into a succession of wave crests and wave troughs across substantially the whole width, so that the material at the wave crests is squeezed out into the material upstream and then flows immediately into the wave trough. In Fig. 2 a roll 2 having a sinusoidal or sawtoothed profile defines nips with plain rolls 1 and 3. These nips are followed by a nip between plain rolls 3 and 4 to remove the corrugations in the material. The roll 1 can be profiled. The profiling can be in a helical formation. In Fig. 4, (not shown), an auxiliary roll (9) is profiled. The roll 9 can be heated, or cooled, and can be driven at an infinitely variable speed, or set obliquely relative to its co-operating roll.
