Abstract

1316311 Zeolite pellets BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [19 May 1970] 24097/70 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] Zeolite pellets are produced by compressing a zeolite powder into pellets, breaking down said pellets to give a material of greater bulk density than the original powder, reforming this material into pellets which are broken down at least once more to obtain a final material of increased bulk density which is formed into pellets of desired size and shape. In an example, synthetic Na mordenite (bulk density 0À52 g./ml. and size 100 mÁ) is pelleted to discs (¢ inch diameter by # inch thick). These discs are broken down to material which passes a 12 mesh B.S.S. sieve (bulk density 0À73 g./ml.), repelleted to discs (¢ inch diameter by # inch), and broken down again. This material having bulk density 0À81 g./ml. is pelleted in # inch by # inch cylinders, the product pellets having bulk density 0À83 g./ml. Preferred zeolites are synthetic mordenite and zeolite L. The preliminary pelleting preferably forms pellets of 5/16-1 inch diameter and 5/16-1 inch depth and final pellets preferably have 1/16-“ inch diameter and 1/16-“ inch depth. The zeolite pellets may have catalytic metals incorporated if desired.
