1316182 Metering valves STERLING DRUG Inc 12 Jan 1971 [15 Jan 1970] 1534/71 Heading B8N [Also in Division F1] A valve for discharging measured quantities of material e.g. liquids and powders under pressure from a container comprises a housing consisting of first and second members 24, 20, the first member 24 having a chamber 32 and a peripheral flange 26, and the second member 20 having a first chamber receiving a portion of the first member, a second or measuring chamber 70 and a peripheral flange 18 abutting the flange of the first member; and a spring biased valve stem 38 passing through bores in the members and through the chambers. The valve stem is such that in the illustrated position, in use, material within the container can flow into the measuring chamber via groove 44 and in a second depressed position flow of material into the measuring chamber is prevented and the material in the measuring chamber can flow into the atmosphere via port 78 and an axial bore (not shown), in the stem. A sealing gasket 66 is provided between the members 24, 20 and the flange 26 of the first member includes an annular sealing projection 58 which sealingly engages the flange 18 of the second member. The members also include annular sealing projections 54, 68. The measuring chamber 70 is provided with longitudinal ribs 72. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), the gasket 66 and ribs 72 are dispensed with. A metal ferrule (12) (Fig. 1 not shown), which envelopes the housing members, has a free edge (16) which is crimped to attach the valve to a container.
