Abstract

1315753 Vehicle washing apparatus CECCATO & C SpA 19 April 1971 [10 July 1970] 26385/71 Heading B7J Vehicle washing apparatus comprises a portal frame for straddling a vehicle to be washed, a scrubbing brush 2 carried horizontally by a support assembly 1, vertical guides 5 on the frame which receive the support assembly so that it can be displaced vertically and pivoted about a horizontal axis, a motor 3 for rotating the brush, hoist means (not shown) which when operative hoist the support assembly and which when inoperative allow the support assembly to descend under gravity, and a switch 16 which operates the hoist means only when the inclination of the support assembly to a vertical plane exceeds a predetermined angle. The support assembly 1 includes a traverse member 1<SP>1</SP> at one end of which is mounted a support 7 on which a pin 8 is rotatably mounted. An ovoidal element 10 and, via an appendage 12, a cam 13 are fixed to the pin so that on tilting the support assembly a weight 11 at the bottom of the ovoidal element 10 causes it to remain substantially vertical, so that the pin and cam 13 rotate relative to a roller 15 which moves from the neutral cam surface 14 to one of the lateral profiles 14<SP>1</SP> or 14<SP>11</SP> and closes the switch 16. Instead of a cam-actuated switch, a mercury switch or photo-electric cell operated switch may be used.
