Abstract

1315423 Controlling perforations of rotatable drum F SMITH & CO (WHITWORTH) Ltd 30 Oct 1971 50563/71 Heading D1L A perforated drum rotatably mounted within a substantially closed chamber and having an impellor or impellors to generate a flow of treatment fluid along the inside of the drum, along the outside of the drum and radially through the perforations to treat a web passing around the drum and in contact with the surface thereof, is also provided with shroud means comprising a sleeve which can be extended axially from the end region of the drum towards the centre region of the drum to blank off progressively, as it is extended, perforations in the drum. As shown the shroud means comprises sleeve sections 11 a, b, c arranged in telescoping relationship coaxially with drum 12. Displacement means 13 is connected to the outermost sleeve section via baffle 14 secured to section 11a. Alternatively the sleeve may be in the form of a bellows of circular section coaxially with and external to drum 12.
