1315099 Substituted phenyl - L - alanines NISSHIN FLOUR MILLING CO Ltd 30 Sept 1971 [30 Sept 1970 1 June 1971 19 Aug 1971] 45646/71 Heading C2C L-compounds of formula in which R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are the same or are different and each is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group provided that when R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen R<SP>2</SP> is not a methyl group are prepared by reacting 3,4- disubstituted phenyl pyruvic acid of the general formula with an amino radical donor such as L-glutamic acid, L-aspartic acid, L-alanine, glycine, peptone and protein hydrolysates and mixtures thereof in the presence of a transaminase derived from a bacterium of the genus Alcaligenes, Mycobacterium, Nocardia, Staphylococcus, Arthrobacter, Gluconobacter or Achromobacter; a mould of the genus Helicostylum or Trametes or a yeast of the genus Rhodotorula.
