1314623 p-Tertiary butyl phenol UNION RHEINISCHE BRAUNKOHLEN KRAFTSTOFF AG 29 April 1971 [2 May 1970] 12071/71 Heading C2C A process for the production of p-tert. butyl phenol comprises reacting phenol with gaseous isobutylene at a temperature of from 90‹ to 150‹ C. in the presence of up to 2À5% by weight based on phenol, of an activated but acid free bleaching earth as catalyst under such conditions that the p-tert butyl phenol content of the resulting crude alkylate does not exceed 70%. Examples are furnished.
