Abstract

1314423 Electro-photography RICOH KK 1 May 1970 [10 May 1969] 21092/70 Heading G2H A liquid developer comprises an insulating liquid carrier and a dispersed toner formed by coupling a diazotized amino dye with a mixture of at least two vinyl compounds, the first having a C 7-16 alkyl radical and the second determining whether the toner is positive or negative and the proportion of dye to mixture being 10-30%. The dye may be tetra-4-amino-copper phthalocyanine, 2, 4, 6-tri-(4-amino-1-anthraquinonylamino)- 1, 3, 5-triazine, or 2, 6-dichloro-p-phenylene diamine. A number of azo dyes are also specified. Lists of vinyl compounds are given. Vinyl compounds producing a positive charge may have an epoxy, hydroxy, carboxy, carboxyallyl, or nitro group and may be used in a molar ratio based on the first vinyl compound of 1/4 to 2/3. Vinyl compounds producing a negative charge may have an amino, amido, or chloro group and may be used in a molar ratio based on the first vinyl compound of 0.1/9.9 to 3/7. Methyl, ethyl or butyl methacrylate may be used as catalyst. A non- ionic surface active agent may be present during coupling. The resulting toner may have a grain size of 0.01-0.1 micron.
