Abstract

1314410 Catalyst composition MONSANTO CO 5 Oct 1970 [6 Oct 1969 (2)] 47238/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division C1] A catalyst composition comprises an active transition metal component of which at least 50% wt is present as the metal aluminate, as determined by X-ray K-absorption edge spectroscopy, dispersed on an inert support and in which the metal aluminate is not detectable by X-ray diffraction. Specified transition metals are Ni, Co, Fe, Cr, Mn and Cu. The support is suitably alumina of surface area greater than 100m<SP>2</SP>/g. Promoters may be added, e.g. chromia, vanadia, or the metals Pt, Pd, Co and Fe, or their oxides. The Examples relate to copper oxide/aluminate an alumina formed by impregnation of alumina with copper nitrate followed by calcination.
