Abstract
1332361 Catalyst composition BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [13 April 1970 3 July 1970] 17361/70 and 32368/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A catalyst composition comprising 0.01 to 10% wt. of metal on a refractory support contains platinum and one of Co, Ni, Fe, Cu, Sn, Ag, Au, Bi, Hg, Sb, Pb or Cd, the atomic amounts of Pt and the second metal being each within plus or minus 5% of the amounts which form ordered alloy structures and there being at least 45 at % Pt with respect to the total metal content. The ordered alloy structures have atomic proportions of the two metals in a simple ratio, e.g. 1:1, 3:1, 4:1, 7:1 or 5:2. The compositions are formed by contacting the support with a solution containing both ions of platinum and of the second metal or with two separate solutions each containing ions of one of the metals, followed by drying and reduction of the ions to the metal. Specified supports are silica, alumina, silica-alumina, silica-magnesia, boria-alumina and zeolites. The compositions may contain halogen. The Examples describe compositions of: (i) Pt + Cu on silica; (ii) Pt + Cu on alumina; (iii) Pt + Co on alumina; (iv) Pt + Ni or Pt + Fe on alumina; and (v) Pt + Sn on alumina.
