Abstract

1,260,539. Apatite/metal catalyst. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 17 March, 1970 [5 May, 1969], No. 22777/69. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C5] A catalyst composition comprises apatite Ca 10-x H 2x (PO 4 ) 6 (Y) 2 , wherein x=O-2, Y is OH, F or Cl, containing in addition a metal, other than calcium or cobalt, present in ionexchange form, suitably in a quantity of 0.01 to 20% wt. Preferred metals are Group II or Group III metals and/or Group VIII or Group VIa metals. Specified metals are silver, magnesium, aluminium, rare earths, tin, lead, vanadium, arsenic, antimony, bismuth, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, rhenium, iron, nickel, platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium and osmium. The composition is preferably prepared by contacting an apatite having a ca/P atomic ratio of 1.75 to 1.30 with a solution of the metal ions, washing to remove any chemically uncombined ions, drying, calcining and reducing.
