Abstract

1282774 Platinum-on-alumina catalyst SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 27 Aug 1969 42693/69 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A catalyst comprises one or more metals of the platinum group deposited on a carrier which is alumina having a total alkali content of less than 0.01%w. By total alkali content is meant the total amount of alkali metals and/or alkaline earth metals present in and/or on the carrier. Suitably, the carrier comprises less than 0.005% w. of alkali metal and less than 0.005% w. of alkaline earth metal and has a bulk density of lower than 0.70 g/ml. Preferred metals are platinum and rhodium in an amount of 0.25 to 5% w. The catalyst may also contain halogen such as chlorine and fluorine and is used in a substantially reduced state. The Example describes catalysts containing as well as the alumina and platinum, specified quantities of Cl, Ca, Mg, K and Na.
