Abstract

1314376 Chloroethylenes AE & CI Ltd 27 Aug 1970 [12 Dec 1969] 41241/70 Heading C2C Trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene are prepared by passing a mixture of chlorine and at least one of ethane, ethylene, and chloro derivatives of ethane or ethylene into a first reaction zone maintained at 200-350‹ C. to obtain a chlorinated reaction material, passing this chlorinated reaction material into a dehydrochlorination zone maintained at 400-600‹ C. in the presence of a dehydrochlorination catalyst which comprises a chloride of the metals of Group II of the Periodic System, and recovering from the exit material from the dehydrochlorination zone the desired trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene.
