Abstract
1351700 Production of chlorinated hydrocarbons FMC CORP 24 Sept 1971 [28 Sept 1970] 44605/71 Heading C2C Perchloroethylene and trichloroethylene are produced by continuously feeding ethylene, O 2 , CCl 4 and Cl 2 to a fluidized bed of a Deacon-type oxychlorination catalyst at a temperature of 410‹-440‹ C., recovering perchloroethylene, trichloroethylene and CCl 4 from the resulting reaction product mixture and recycling recovered CCl 4 to the fluidized bed, the proportion of CCl 4 in the organic compounds fed to the fluidized bed being in the range of 2-10 mole per cent, the chlorine : carbon atomic ratio in the feed being in the range of 1À2 : 1 to 2 : 1 and the oxygen : carbon atomic ratio in the feed being 0À85-2 : 1.
