Abstract

1314347 Air rectification process AIR PRODUCTS Ltd 19 April 1971 [16 March 1970] 12586/70 Heading F4P The feed to a two-store air rectification column C101, C102 for the production of low purity oxygen comprises a low pressure portion delivered by a compressor K101 through conventional heat exchangers E101, E102 to the base of the high pressure column C101, and a high pressure portion delivered by a compressor K102 through exchangers E103, E104 and through a condenser-evaporator E109 where the high pressure air is partly condensed against boiling liquid oxygen having been withdrawn from the base of column C102, and the condensate is passed through a sub-cooler E108 after which the condensed high pressure air portion is valve expanded and fed to the low pressure column C102. The major part of the uncondensed portion of high pressure air is separated at C110, warmed at E102, E103, E104 workexpanded at K103, cooled at E105 and fed to column C102 whilst the minor portion is condensed against low pressure nitrogen at E110 and added to the subcooled liquid air leaving heat exchanger E108. Reboil for column C102 is provided by withdrawing crude liquid oxygen from column C101, cooling it at E105 purifying in absorber C105 and vaporizing at an external evaporator-condenser E107 in heat exchange with withdrawn high pressure nitrogen and feeding the oxygen vapour into column C102. A further external evaporator-condenser E106 is traversed by said valve-expanded liquid air and by high pressure nitrogen which latter is condensed and added to nitrogen from E107 and valve-expanded into column C102.
