Abstract

1314200 Die-and-plunger carton erecting machines MARDON, SON & HALL Ltd 19 Nov 1971 [30 Dec 1970] 61839/70 Heading B5D A die and plunger carton erecting machine comprises a hopper 10 holding a stack 20 of carton blanks and an inclined slide 19 down which a blank can slide under gravity to a die 18 where it is erected by a reciprocating plunger 12. The blanks are removed from the hopper is synchronism with the movement of the plunger 12 by means of a lug 14 which first trips a switch 31 to cause a pneumatic suction pad 30 to lift the topmost blank from the stack and then,when the plunger has reached the die, trips a switch 32 to cause the pad 30 to release the blank 22. The blank 22 then rests on a plate 15 attached to the plunger, whilst the blank 21 ahead is being erected, and drops into place in front of the die as the plunger is removed from the die. The erected cartons are taken away on a conveyer 17. In modifications, the plate 15 may be replaced by a power-operated ledge or series of rods or clamps responsive to a signal from a third switch, and the suction pad 30 may be replaced by a mechanical clamp or electromagnet.
