Abstract

1314089 Phenyl acrylate derivatives and their antifungal uses ASPRO-NICHOLAS Ltd 21 May 1971 [21 May 1970] 24743/70 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R represents at least one electrophilic substituent, R 1 represents hydrogen, -CH 3 or -C 2 H 5 ; R 2 represents hydrogen, carboxy or (C 1-6 ) alkoxycarbonyl; and R 3 represents at least one of hydrogen, (C 1-6 ) alkyl and (C 1-6 )- alkoxy. These compounds may be prepared by treating a corresponding phenol with a compound of formula CH 2 =CR 1 CO halogen or (CH 2 =CR 1 CO) 2 O, wherein R 1 is the same as above. The following compounds are prepared in the examples:-methyl 3-chloro-4-acryloxybenzoate; 3,5-dimethyl-4-chlorophenyl acrylate; 3,5 - dimethyl - 2,4 - dichlorophenyl acrylate; 2,6 - dichloro - phenyl acrylate; 2,4- dichlorophenyl acrylate; methyl 3,5-dichloro- 4 - acryloxy - benzoate; and 2,4,6 - trichlorophenyl acrylate. These compounds are reported to have fungicidal properties.
