Abstract
1,139,369. Bis-thienyl-1,3,4-oxdiazoles. CIBA Ltd. 15 April, 1966 [10 May, 1965], No. 16685/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions C5 and D1] The invention comprises bis-thienyl-1,3,4- oxdiazoles of formula wherein A is a phenyl or benzoxazolyl group, R 1 is an H, halogen, alkyl, halogenoalkyl, cyanoalkyl, -CN, alkoxy, aralkoxy, phenoxy, -COOH, ester, -SO 3 H, sulphonic ester, alkyl or aryl sulphone, and R 2 is an H, halogen or C 1-4 , alkyl substituent, as well as derivatives of said compounds which contain R 1 and/or R 2 as substituents on a benzene nucleus of A. The compounds are prepared by the reaction of a carboxylic halide of formula with an acid hydrazide of formula (or by reaction of the opposite compounds in which the -COHal and -CONHNH 2 groups on the thiophane groups are reversed) which on elimination of hydrogen halide gives a compound which is cyclized to compounds (I) by elimination of water.
