Abstract

1311402 Stabilized geranyl phenyl ethers STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 6 Aug 1971 [20 May 1971] 37175/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] A geranyl phenyl ether of Formula I in which R and R<SP>1</SP> are independently methyl or ethyl; n is zero or 1; R is hydrogen, C 1 -C 6 alkyl, C 2 -C 6 alkenyl, C 1 -C 6 alkoxy, halogen, nitro, C 1 -C 6 alkylthio or a heterocyclic radical is stabilized against the action of light by the addition of an effective amount, e.g. between 0À1 and 10% by weight of the compound of Formula I, of a stabilizer of Formula II wherein R 3 and R 4 may be the same or different and may be hydrogen, C 1 -C 6 alkyl, C 1 -C 6 alkoxy, C 1 -C 6 carboalkoxy, cyclohexyl, phenyl and halogen. Examples of stabilizers are 2 - (21 - hydroxy - 51 - methylphenyl)benzotriazole, 2 - (3<SP>1</SP> - tert - butyl - 2<SP>1</SP> - hydroxy- 3<SP>1</SP>- methylphenyl) - 5 - chlorobenzotriazole and 2 - (3<SP>1</SP>,5<SP>1</SP> - ditert - butyl - 2<SP>1</SP> - hydroxyphenyl)- 5-chlorobenzotriazole. A preferred geranyl phenyl ether is the compound of Formula III
