Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula: <FORM:0961037/C1/1> (wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of at most 3 carbon atoms, X is an oxygen or sulphur atom or an NH group, R2 is a phenyl radical optionally substituted by alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxy, alkythio or alkylenedioxy groups each containing at most 4 carbon atoms, hydroxyl or benzyl groups or halogen atoms or a naphthyl radical, R3 is an alkyl group of at most 4 carbon atoms or an aralkyl or aryl group and R4 is a hydrogen atom, or R3 and R4 together represent an alkylene group) and their preparation by condensing the appropriate hydrazine R2XCH2CHR1NHNH2 or an acid-addition salt thereof with a b - keto - carboxylic ester R5OCOCHR4COR3 (wherein R5 is an alkyl group of at most 4 carbon atoms). Examples are given. 2-Phenoxyethyl-hydrazine is prepared from 2-phenoxyethyl bromide and hydrazine hydrate, and is converted to the hydrochloride. Specification 945,474 is referred to.
