Abstract
1313958 Extrusion press WERNER & PFLEIDERER 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 25269/71 Heading B5A A material is extruded free of occluded gases by applying a vacuum throughout apparatus comprising a cylinder 3, from an orifice 11 of which the material is extruded by an hydraulically actuated piston 5, and a double bladed mixer 2 which intermittently discharges to the cylinder 3, via a feeder screw 1, the vacuum being applied after sealing the loading opening of the mixer 2, and sealing the orifice 11 by a rubber ball 12. The casing of the screw 1 may comprise part of the mixer housing or, as shown, may comprise a trunnion 9, of a pair 8, 9 about which the cylinder 3 may rotate, to and fro, to agitate the material therein whilst maintaining the vacuum prior to extrusion in a horizontal direction of a downwardly inclined direction. The material is extruded on to a conveyer belt whereon it is transversely cut by a rotary cutter which, together with the belt, may be swung from a horizontal alignment with the cylinder 3 to an inclination either corresponding to, or differing from, a downwardly inclined extrusion direction of the cylinder 3. The screw 1 may remain stationary during mixing by the mixer 2, or may enhance the mixing effect by rotating in the opposite direction to that for discharge to the cylinder 3. The screw 1 may be hydraulically retractable from the trunnion 9, so that the mixer 2, including the screw 1, is pivotable about axis 18, away from the cylinder 3 to location 19 to facilitate clearing.
