1313657 Offshore structures J ROSE and G W MURDOCH 22 July 1970 [23 July 1969] 36920/69 Heading E1H A jetty comprises buoyant box-members 10 attached to the upper ends of dolphin piles 22 by connectors 30, or similar connectors, Figs. 13 to 16 (not shown), engaging with arcuate recesses 12 at the corners and the centre of each member. Each of the connectors 30 is suitable for use with a pile of square crosssection and engagement with a corner recess 12 of a single member 10, and comprises a horizontal flange 32 overlapping the member and fixed thereto by bolts 45 in screw-threaded holes 46. Plates 34, 35 connected to the flange by plates 36..39 are bolted to the pile. A plate 40 at the top of the connector abuts the head of the pile. The connectors according to Figs. 13 to 16 are similar to that shown saving that they are suitable for engagement with a recess or pair of recesses in the adjacent member or members half or wholly encircling the respective pile, which is either tubular or cruciform in cross-section. Construction of the jetty involves formation of a level surface 20, floating the members 10 into position, driving the piles with the aid of guiding spiders 21, re- moval of the spiders, lifting the member to the fops of the piles with the aid of suitable tackle, Fig. 4 (not shown), and replacement of the tackle with the connectors. A temporary surface 27 is then laid to allow a crane 24 with a pile driver 25 to advance from the surface 20.
