Abstract

1313464 Emulsifiers for organo-phosphorus pesticides SAWYO CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 May 1971 [18 June 1970] 14599/71 Heading A5E [Also in Divisions C2 C3 and C5] An emulsifier composition for use with phosphorus-containing toxicants comprises (A) a non-ionic surfactant of the formula: wherein p is 1, 2 or 3, each of m and n is 2 or 3 provided that m is 3 when n is 2 and m is 2 when n is 3, a is an integer of 5 to 60, b is an integer of 1 to 10 and c is an integer of 0 to 5 when n is 2 or, alternatively, a is an integer of 0 to 20, b is an integer of 5 to 60 and c is an integer of 0 to 5 when n is 3; and (B) an anionic surfactant of the formula: wherein R denotes an alkyl group having at least 8 carbon atoms and M denotes an alkaline earth metal, preferably Ca, Ba and Mg. The emulsifier composition may contain as further ingredients other conventional surfactants, organic solvents and conventional stabilizers. The emulsifier composition is mixed with the phosphorus-containing toxicant to form a concentrate which may be subsequently diluted with water for use as an insecticide, germicide, nematocide, disinfectant, herbicide or plant hormone. A suitable component (A) is prepared from dicyclohexylphenol and 10 moles each of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide.
