Abstract

1313338 Reciprocating pumps COCKX & SONS (LONDON) Ltd 3 Sept 1971 [8 Sept 1970] 42931/70 Heading F1A A pump for measuring and dispensing liquid e. g. cream or paint, comprises a piston 13 mounted with limited axial movement on a hollow piston rod 9 and having through-passages 14 controlled by a valve member 16 on the piston rod, upward movement of the piston rod raising the piston and causing liquid to pass from above to below it via passages 14, and downward movement of the rod closing passages 14 by valve member 16 and opening ports 10 for discharge of the liquid beneath the piston via rod 9 and nozzle 19, which has limited axial movement on rod 9 and is engaged by the piston rod actuating means, so that on the upward stroke, the nozzle is closed by seat 18 engaging valve member 12, and on the downward stroke, the nozzle is opened. The actuating means comprises a handle 24 acting on a sleeve 20 axially slidable on support column 1. Sleeve 20 is connected to nozzle 19 and carries a support 23 for a receptacle for the liquid. The length of the upward stroke is adjusted by a movable stop 28. A spring 27 acts to move sleeve 20 upwardly on release of handle 24 at the end of the discharge stroke to close nozzle 19 and prevent drip. A hopper 5 supplying liquid to the pump cylinder 2 is removably secured thereto by screws, Fig. 2 (not shown).
