Abstract

1313309 Driving conveyers COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 9 July 1971 [21 July 1970] 35198/70 Heading B8A [Also in Division F2] In the drive for a conveyer the driven stage 8 of a clutch/brake combination is mounted on a shaft 10 drivably connected to a drive sprocket (not shown) of the conveyer through a gear-box 12. A brake disc 28 is biased by springs 42 into engagement with a brake member 14, and by springs 30 of lesser strength in the opposite direction, fluid from a pump 16 via a control valve 18 and pipe 44 acting on a piston 13 to allow springs 30 to disengage the brake when the conveyer is to be driven, a clutch disc 26 contacting the driving member 2 (driven by an electric motor 6) on fluid being supplied from valve 18 to a passage 52 in a collar 50. The control valve 18 ensures that the brake is disengaged before the clutch is engaged, and ensures that the clutch disengages before the brake engages when the motor 6 is switched off. A time delay in the valve 18 ensures that motor 6 can attain full speed before engagement of the clutch to drive the conveyer.
