Abstract

1312944 Rotary flowmeters GAMONCALMET INDUSTRIES Inc 22 May 1970 [5 Nov 1969] 24927/70 Heading F1F A liquid flowmeter comprises a casing 12, having inlet and outlet ports 26, 28 respectively and a bottom opening 36 closed by a screwthreaded cover 20 of polymer or metal through which a two-part measuring chamber 14, a gyratory piston 16 and motion transmitting means 18 are inserted as a unit. The upwardly and downwardly projecting flanges 52, 58 of the measuring chamber parts 48, 54 are an interference fit to ensure liquid tightness of the chamber. Openings through the bottom and top surfaces of the parts 48, 54 communicate with the inlet and outlet ports respectively. Liquid entering through port 26 passes through a strainer 120 and between lugs 102 on the cover 20 which engage beneath the flange 52 and thus allow free movement of the piston 16, which is preferably moulded from a wear-resistant polymer or elastomer having a specific gravity near that of water so that the piston is "semi-floating". The motion transmitting means comprises a magnetic coupling 98, 118 with the former being disposed in a watertight chamber 96 within the casing and the latter within a body member 104 of a register 22 having a transparent aperture 108 through which the counter 112 can be read.
