Abstract

1312849 Resistors MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 10 July 1970 33612/70 Heading HIS A method of making a resistor includes the initial step of heating silica powder which is incorporated in the resistive element or on a surrounding tube or both to a temperature in the range 700-1500‹ C. to reduce the effects of humidity on said resistor. The dried silica powder is then mixed with a binder, e.g. a thermosetting binder such as the following resins:- phenol, melamine, silicone, or epoxy and carbon black resin or graphite powder to form a resistance composition. The outer case of the resistor may be a sleeve made of heated silica powder and a resin. The silica powder is 99À00- 99-90% pure. The resistive mixture may comprise 72% by weight silica powder, 8% by weight carbon black, 19À5% by weight phenolaldehyde resin and 0À5% by weight stearic acid and the sleeve may be 80% silica powder, 19À5% phenol-aldehyde resin and 0À5% stearic acid.
