Abstract
1312647 Shaped carbon bodies KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO KK 4 Aug 1970 [5 Aug 1969] 37514/70 Heading C1A A shaped carbon product is obtained by treating a shaped body, i.e. a filament, thin film, plate, tube, sphere or other complex configuration, of a vinylidene fluoride homopolymer or copolymer, with a nucleophilic reagent selected from ammonia, organic amines, alkali metals, alkali metal amides, KOH and NaOH so as to cross-link the constituent molecules of the body, and then heating the so treated body in a non-reactive gaseous atmosphere at a temperature of 300-500‹ C. If desired, the carbon product so obtained may be further heated, e.g. at 500‹ to 3000‹ C. to at least partially graphitize the product. The treatment with the nucleophilic agent may be carried out at a temperature of 60-90‹ C. for 20-40 hrs. Ammonia and a mix of ammonia and alkali metal, e.g. Na, are the preferred nucleophilic reagents. The product has desirable electrical and molecular sieve absorbent properties.
