Abstract
1312576 Resistors CORNING GLASS WORKS 16 Sept 1971 [25 Sept 1970] 43252/71 Heading HIS [Also in Division C3] A coating composition for electrical resistors comprises by weight 4-24% of a monomethyl, monoethyl, monopropyl or monophenyl polysiloxane resin or copolymer thereof, 10-70% of refractory filler, 2-20% of suspension agent, and 10-50% of organic solvent. There may also be present up to 15% of an inorganic pigment and up to 10% of an alkyl silicate or polysiloxane resin other than the above specified monorganopolysiloxan. Suitable refractory fillers are SiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 , preferably a mixture of these, or ZrO 2 , MgO, Ta 2 O 5 , WO 3 , MoO 3 , SiC, forsterite and spinel, suitable suspension agents are mica and aluminium silicate, preferably a mixture of these, and clays and diatomaceous earth; suitable pigments include TiO 2 , Fe 2 O 3 , Cr 2 O 3 and cobaltous aluminate; suitable solvents include methyl, ethyl and butyl monoethers of ethylene glycol. In the examples compositions are prepared containing ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, a monomethyl polysiloxane, TiO 2 , mica, aluminium silicate, Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , and optionally Cr 2 O 3 or cobaltous aluminate, and a commercial polysiloxane resin, "ethyl silicate 40", or a 50% hydrolysed tetraethyl silicate. They are applied to thin-layer resistors.
