Abstract

1312099 Friction clutches; clutch control WICHITA CO Ltd 8 Nov 1971 [27 Nov 1970] 56601/70 Headings F2C and F2L In a multi-plate friction clutch wherein interengaging clutch plates 14, 15 respectively splined to a driving sleeve 10 and a driven hub 11 are engaged by axial movement of a non- rotatable piston 18, the piston 18 is moved axially by supplying pressure air to an expansible annulus 20 and the piston 18 acts through rollers 21 on the clutch plate. The rollers 21 are formed by the outer races of roller bearings which have their inner races secured to studs 22 carried by the piston 18. The axes of the studs 22 are perpendicular to the axis of the clutch.
