Abstract

1311331 Scoop-arm machines HOPPER Inc 16 March 1970 [19 March 1969] 12513/70 Heading E1F A back hoe or grader comprises a boom 15 pivoted at 16, a dipper 18 pivoted on the boom at 17, a work implement 21 including lever 20 pivoted on the dipper at 19, the distance between the pivots 16, 17 being substantially equal to that between the pivots 17, 19, links 44 pivotally connected to the boom and to the levers, rams 23, 25 for moving the boom and dipper, respectively, a first sprocket 54, Fig. 2 (not shown), coaxial with the pivot 16, a second sprocket 53 coaxial with the pivot 17 and connected to the dipper for turning with it, the sprocket 54 having twice the diameter of the sprocket 53 and being coupled to it by an endless chain 55, and means -for securing the sprocket 54 against rotation in one direction to coordinate the actions of the boom and the dipper whereby they move in opposite directions with the angular rate of movement of the dipper relative to the boombeing substantially twice the angular rate of movement of the boom about the pivot 16 so that the pivot 19 moves in a straight line. The ram 23 is pivoted to a subframe 30 which is movable about the pivot 16 by rams 31. The implement 21 includes a bucket 36 pivoted to a block 38 for movement by a rotary hydraulic device 39, Fig. 8 (not shown), and the block is pivoted at 40 on the levers 20 for movement by a second rotary hydraulic device 41. The links 44 are pivotally connected to slide blocks 46 slidably disposed between parallel guides 47 fixed to the boom, for movement by rams 49 from the position shown to a position in which the pivots of the links are coaxial with the pivot 17. The sprocket 54 is mounted on a shaft 58 and can be adjustably fixed to the shaft by a pin 60, Fig. 3 (not shown). An arm 64 is fixed to the shaft and carries a servo pilot valve having a roller 65 which is engageable with a circular stop 67. The servo pilot valve is connected in the circuit of the rams 23, 31 and operates the control valve for these rams, Fig. 10 (not shown).
