Abstract

1510510 Bucket wheel excavators KOCH TRANSPORTTECHNIK GmbH 26 Sept 1975 [1 Oct 1974 22 May 1975] 39535/75 Heading E1F [Also in Division B8] A bucket excavator comprises buckets pivotally mounted on a wheel and movable about their pivots between positions in which they are respectively positioned for digging in opposite directions of rotation of the wheel. In one embodiment, Fig. I, each bucket has two pick-up openings 5, 5' and the pivoting of the bucket is limited by the engagement of an arm 23 with a stop 21 or 21'. Springs 22, 22' are provided to bias the bucket into a central position. In another embodiment, Figs. 6 and 7, each bucket 42 is in the form of a sector of a cylinder and is pivoted on a shaft 27, when the direction of rotation of the wheel is reversed, by means of an arm 30 and a fork member 31. The fork member is pivotally mounted on a shaft 43 secured to a support 44 of a ring 34, the shaft 43 also pivotally mounting two arms 45, 45' engageable with dampers 46, 46'. The rotation of the ring 34 is reversed simultaneously with the reversal of wheel 33, but at a slightly greater speed, so that the fork member 31 overtakes the corresponding bucket and drives the arm 30 towards the direction of rotation. A friction device (not shown) allows the ring 34 to be driven at the same speed with respect to the wheel 33 when the ring has taken its maximum of advance after a direction reversal.
