Abstract

1311176 Forming resin nosings for expansion joints; shuttering EXPANDITE Ltd 16 Aug 1971 [4 Sept 1970] 42554/70 Headings E1G and E1S In the formation of an expansion joint between two concrete bridge sections 27, 28 having a gap 29 therebetween and a rebate 30, 31 in each section extending along the gap, a shuttering strip 1 having parallel, flat faces 3, 4 maintained an adjustable distance apart is supported in the gap and epoxy resin is cast in the rebates and allowed to harden to form nosings 34, 35, the shuttering being subsequently removed. The resin may be allowed to exude through gaps 32, 33 between the shuttering and the bottom of the rebates to form ledges to support an elastic strip which is subsequently inserted. The shuttering comprises two steel channel sections having the lower flanges 7, 8 overlapping and connected together by bolts 9 engaging a slotted hole in one flange and a hole in the other. The upper flanges are connected together by angle members 13 which also serve to support the shuttering in the gap 29. Several shuttering strips 1 may be connected together by fish plates 19, 20 or by plates on the inside of the shuttering engaging in pockets in two adjacent strips. The faces 3, 4 may be coated with a release agent.
