Abstract

1310833 Coating apparatus BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 26 May 1970 [26 May 1969] 25147/70 Heading B2L Coating aparatus for coating uneven surfaces such as shoe soles comprises a resilient roller 14 rotating an a trough of coating material having adjustably mounted adjacent thereto a pressure plate 26 having a greater radius of curvature than the roller, the arrangement being such that a large opening is provided between the pressure plate and the roller at the lower end and a smaller opening at the upper end thus causing an increase in pressure in the coating fluid under the pressure plate which prevents deformation of the applicator roller at the upper end of the pressure plate normally ocurring when the roller contacts a workpiece. End plates (not shown) are provided on the pressure plate adjacent the end of the roller to prevent escape of the coating medium as the pressure increases. A lid 44 is provided to prevent evaporation of the coating medium. A doctor blade 36 is also provided.
