Abstract

1465813 Etching apparatus HOECHST AG 11 April 1974 [16 April 1973] 16077/74 Heading B6J [Also in Division G2] An apparatus for treating one surface of sheet or plate material with a liquid (e.g. for photographic development or etching) comprises a treatment zone through which the material may be conveyed, two adjacent contrarotatable rubbing rollers 8, 9 having non-smooth circumferential surfaces and means (e.g. nozzle 13) for applying liquid to said surface between the rollers so that, in operation, the liquid will be rubbed on to the surface by the rollers. In the apparatus of Fig. 1, further liquid is applied by nozzles 12 and 14 while the material being treated is supported on a ribbed plate 7, the liquid used being recycled after filtration. The rubbing rollers preferably have bristles on their surfaces but may also have a felt, plush or sponge rubber surface. In Fig. 4 (not shown) an apparatus from processing multi-metal printing plates comprises a conventional spraydevelopment station (A), a development station (B), a washing station (C), a conventional sprayetching station (D), a washing station (E), a decoating station (F), a washing station (G), and a preserving station (H); stations (B) and (F) are in accordance with the invention.
