Abstract

1310689 Photographic developing apparatus CANON KK 9 March 1970 [8 March 1969(3)] 11166/70 Headings G2A and G2H A photographic sheet P is conveyed through a bath 4 of developer liquid by a drum 3, means being provided for the drum to attract and hold the paper sheet against its surface. As shown, the drum 3 has a perforated surface, and is completely immersed in the liquid as it rotates in direction a. The liquid is circulated by being pumped out of the centre of the drum through a pipe 5, as shown by the arrows in Fig. 2, and re-enters the bath 1 below an arcuate perforated plate 10. The liquid passes first of all through the perforations 9 in plate 10, which impart an agitating motion to the liquid, so enhancing uniform development. The liquid pumped out through pipe 5 causes a suction effect which draws in further liquid through the perforations 2 in drum 3. This suction effect holds the sheet P firmly against the surface of the drum as it passes round. A take-off blade 11 separates the sheet from the drum, and guides it out through rollers 12. If the apparatus is for developing an electrophotographic sheet, the plate 10 may act as an electrode, to prevent peripheral effects arising. In the modification of Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), a shield is used to block off the perforations not covered by the sheet, to reduce the suction. In the further modification of Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the tube 5 passing along the axis of the drum is divided into two compartments which communicate with the interior of the drum, itself divided by a partition (15) into two corresponding compartments. One compartment acts as a liquid inlet, and the other as an outlet.
