1310599 Sampling and dispensing fluent materials COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 12 Oct 1971 [24 Nov 1970] 55850/70 Heading B8N Apparatus for sampling and dispensing fluent material comprises a housing 4 defining an inlet 6, a cylindrical chamber 8 and an outlet 10, a rotor 16 with radial or tangential vanes 26, a further cylindrical chamber 32 defined by the housing and accommodating a rotor 37 having a transverse passage 42 whereby with the rotor 37 in one limit position a sample of the material being conveyed by rotor 16 passes via opening 30 into the passage and with the rotor in a second limit position, the sample within the passage is dispensed via outlet 36. The limit positions are defined by engagement between a projection (not shown) on the rotor 37 and the ends of an arcuate slot (not shown). In an intermediate position of the rotor 37 the passage may be in communication with the inlet 30 and the outlet 36, this providing a continuous sample of material being conveyed by rotor 16. The passge is V-shaped in a section transversely of the rotor 37 with the two portions adjoining at an angle a degrees (90 degrees # a degrees < 180), a degrees preferably being 132 degrees. The rotor 16 is driven, e.g. by an electric motor and the rotor 37 may be oscillated manually through drive means or preferably by powered drive means. The rotor 37 may be operated by the powered drive means at predetermined intervals, the intervals being related to the rotational speed of the rotor 16, so that the amount of material dispensed by the rotor 37 will be a proportion of the amount dispensed via outlet 10. The powered drive means may alternatively oscillate the rotor 37 continuously. The rotor 37 may include a plurality of longitudinally and radially or tangentially extending vanes instead of the passage 42.
