1310431 Work-holders HYDRAJAWS Ltd 11 Jan 1971 [10 Jan 1970] 1305/70 Heading B3B A fluid-operable work-holder device has an arm 38 which is pivotally mounted to be swung, about a first axis, between inoperative and operative positions, and tilted, about a second axis when in the operative position, and includes an actuating element 18 displaceable by fluid operated means and respective drive-transmitting elements 16, 40 co-operable with the actuating element and the arm to effect said swinging and tilting movements in response to displacement of the actuating element. As shown, the work-holder, which can be secured to a machine, comprises a lever arm 38 mounted on a shaft 12. The latter can be rotated by contact with a cam-nosed plunger 16 during movement of the latter to the left as seen in the figs. The shaft 12 has a cut-away flat portion 26 (Fig. 4) upon which the cam nose 28 acts to rotate the shaft and hence the lever arm through 90 degrees. During continued extension of plunger 16 a ramp surface 46 thereon moves a plunger 40 whose head 52 acts on the lever arm to pivot the latter to the position shown in Fig. 6 in which a workpiece can be clamped below end 60 of the arm. A spring-urged detent 56 biases the arm to a normal horizontal position, while a torsion spring 30 biases the shaft 12 to a position in which the arm extends transversely to the plunger 16. The latter is spring-urged to its retracted position.
