Abstract
1309808 Buried insulated pipe systems G A FORBES 24 June 1971 [24 June 1970] 30552/70 Heading F2P In a buried system of insulated pipes a portion of pipe at at least one change of direction or junction is situated within a cavity and is moveable within the cavity by forces produced in the pipe by thermal expansion or contraction, said cavity being defined by a box which has a top and a peripheral side wall, said side wall having cut away portions to allow the pipe to pass therethrough. The box may also have a nesting portion comprising a bottom and a peripheral side wall so as to completely enclose the pipe bend. As shown (Fig. 1) each side wall is composed of four facets, two adjacent facets being apertured at 7-10 and 17-20. In an alternative (Fig. 2, not shown) the box is of traperzoidal cross-section, the two non-parallel facets being apertured to admit the cross piece of a T-junction, the stem of the T being admitted via a hole in the shortest facet. The pipes may rest on the trench floor or be supported above it. If the lower half of the box is used it may either be inserted before laying the pipes or the pipes may be jacked up during placement. The box is conveniently of glass reinforced resin laminate and may be filled with mineral fibres.
