Abstract

1309748 Glazing IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 April 1970 [8 May 1969] 23463/69 Addition to 1264307 Heading E1R The glazing assembly of the Specification 1264307 is modified in that the adhesive material employed to bond the sheet of glazing material to the edge strip contains as the adhesion-providing component a blend consisting of from 90% to 30% by weight of a first copolymer A of ethylene with one or more hydroxy or epoxy lower aliphatic monoesters of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, and with 0% to 55% by weight of the copolymer of a further comonomer having one ethylenic double bond which is an ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid or a vinyl ester, said copolymer containing, by weight at least 35% of ethylene and (a) from 1.0% to 8.5% of free hydrogen groups; or (b) from 0.10% to 3.0% of expoxy oxygen; or (c) both free hydrogen groups up to 8.5% and epoxy oxygen up to 3.0% provided that the weight of free hydrogen groups + (10X weight of epoxy oxygen) is always at least 1% by weight of the copolymer and from 10% to 70% by weight of a second copolymer B, compatible with the first copolymer A and being a copolymer comprising from 90% to 20% by weight by weight of ethylene with from 10% to 80% by weight of a copolymerisable ester such as vinyl esters of C 2 to C 6 alkanoic acids or C, to C 8 alkyl acrylates or methacrylates. The adhesive material may contain fillers, stabilizers, plasticizers and pigments.
