Abstract
1309659 Jointing tubes to headers SOC ANON DES USINES CHAUSSON 15 July 1970 [23 July 1969] 34410/70 Heading F2G [Also in Division F4] A method of manufacturing an I.C. engine radiator consisting of tubes 13 extending between headers 1 of rubber or plastics material, comprises (a) fitting the tube ends into passages 7 in one wall 5 of the header 1 provided with an apertured reinforcing plate 10 and (b) supplying compressed air to the header while simultaneously subjecting the header to heat treatment to thereby cause the wall material to be urged towards and to adhere to the external surface of the tubes and so form a fluid tight joint. In addition to the apertures 11 through which the tubes 13 pass, the plate 10 is also provided with holes 12 shaped to receive projections 9 extending outwardly from the external surface of the header wall 5. The wall 5 is also formed with a longitudinal groove (6, Fig. 2) separating two rows of tube passages. In a modified embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) small transverse grooves (14) are formed on either side of the projections (9). The wall of the tube passages (7) may be so contoured, e.g. corrugated, that only part thereof contacts the tube surface (see Figs. 6 and 7).
