Abstract

1309445 Thermally insulated containers IMI SANTON Ltd 29 April 1971 [16 April 1970] 18255/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division F4] Thermally insulated containers, e.g. hot water tanks, refrigerators, are formed by blowmoulding a plastics outer casing, removing a part thereof to form an opening in it, passing an inner casing through the opening to position it within the outer casing and then providing a cellular thermally insulating material between the casings. The thermal insulation may be provided by foam plastics, e.g. polyurethane, either preformed or foamed in situ so as to bond to the outer casing. Foaming may be effected with the inner casing in position so that it is bonded to the foam or against a former of the same size and shape as the inner casing. A backing plate having a preformed layer of foam thereon may be placed on the inner casing so that the inner casing is surrounded by the insulation. Securing brackets may be mounted on the backing plate. The outer casing may be blow-moulded from polyvinylchloride, polypropylene or a polyamide; the inner casing may be a copper hot water cylinder.
