Abstract

1309180 Gas turbine engine combustion chambers BROWN BOVERI-SULZER TURBOMACHINERY Ltd 26 Aug 1971 [1 Oct 1970] 40103/71 Heading F1L A gas turbine engine combustion chamber has at least one outwardly-directed bulge 5, Fig. 2, in its wall 2, with inlet apertures 6 for cooling air provided in the bulge downstream (with respect to gas flow B) of its crest, and an outlet 9 for the cooling air between the wall 2 and an internal screening member 8. The dimension h is at least twice dimension s, and dimension b is at least half dimension h. The axis of aperture 6 makes an angle of at least 100 degrees, e. g. 140 degrees, with the combustion chamber axis. The outlet 9 may have flow straightening baffles. There may be two axially-spaced rows of circumferentiallyspaced bulges, with the bulges of one row axially aligned with the gaps of the other row. The combustion chamber wall may comprise a downstream portion (2b), Fig. 4 (not shown), formed with a bulge at its upstream end, and a plain cylindrical upstream portion (2a) telescoped within the portion (2b) so that its downstream end forms the screening member.
