Abstract
1308309 Sintered resistors BULTEN KANTHAL AB 18 May 1970 [16 May 1969(2)] 25230/69 and 25231/69 Headings C7A and C7D [Also in Division H5] A sintered electric resistance element suitable for use up to 1680‹C comprises at least 70% volume MoSi 2 and up to 30% volume of a grain growth inhibitor such as SiC, glass and an outer layer of SiO 2 1-8Á thick. The grain size of the sintered body is <1/15 of the cross-sectional size of the body and in any case < 20Á. The resistor may have a circular or rectangular crosssection of the incandescent zone length should be more than 200 times the diameter. The examples relate to sintering a compact of 95% wt MoSi 2 and 5% wt lentonite at 1300‹C. in H 2 and'then at 1600‹C in air to form the SiO 2 coating.
