Abstract

Varistor comprises 5-9 pbw SiC powder, 0.1-1 pbw copper and 1-5 pbw ceramic binder, the copper may be partly dispersed with the matrix and partly diffused into the surface of the SiC particles. The ceramic matrix may include 4-14 wt.% of dispersed graphite powder. The body is prepared by compressing SiC, binder and copper, its oxide, hydroxide or carbonate and heating in inert gas containing same oxygen at 1000-1400 degrees C.
