1308306 Moulding building elements ENGLISH CLAYS LOVERING POCHIN & CO Ltd 5 May 1970 [24 April 1969] 21107/69 Heading B5A A method of producing a building element having a decorative surface comprises the steps of distributing particulate material of a first colour over the bottom of a mould, filling the mould with cementitious composition, compacting the particulate and cementitious materials and causing the composition to harden, such that the cementitious material after hardening is of a second colour. The particles in the particulate material are of natural stone, crushed building element, mica, sea shells, crushed glass or glass beads, and have an equivalent spherical diameter not exceeding # inch while 30% by weight of the material is in the range “ to # inche. The particles may be suspended in a liquid to form a slurry. The cementitious material comprises an aggregate of siliceous material, a bonding material and water. Apparatus includes a horizontally movable mould box 1 containing a reciprocatable platen 2, conduit 4 for feeding particulate material 5 to the platen 2 from a hopper, a hopper 6 containing the cementitious material 7 for feeding the material into box 1 on top of material 5, and a die-head 9 against which the materials in the box are compressed. Various relationships between the two colours of the materials used are disclosed in terms of the Munsell colour code.
