Abstract
1308264 I-N-Benzyl-#-methoxy-3-trifluoromethyl-phenylethylamine SMITH KLINE & FRENCH LABORATORIES 27 July 1971 [28 July 1970] 35156/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] The title compound is prepared by treating the dl form in a lower alkanol with an optically active levorotatory organic acid to form the corresponding optically active salt which is then treated with a base to liberate the l-isomer. Alternatively an aqueous lower alkanol solution of the racemic mixture is treated with an optically active organic acid, (e.g. D-tartaric acid) to remove the d-isomer of the amine then the mother liquor is made basic and subsequently treated with the corresponding enantiomer of the optically active organic acid (e.g. L-tartaric acid) to form a salt from which the l-isomer of the amine is subsequently liberated. The title compound may be. converted into pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts such as the hydrochloride.
