Abstract

1307885 Launching missiles RAFAUT & CIE 8 May 1970 [13 May 1969] 22326/70 Heading F3C The invention relates to a safe starting control system for a missile which is to be carried on and fired from a carrier vehicle, the system being adapted to control the starting of at least one control mechanism in the missile a predetermined time after it has been fired from the vehicle. The system comprises an electric cable 2 one end of which is adapted to be detachably connected to an electric power source provided on the carrier vehicle (not shown) and operative to supply an electric signal upon firing of the missile therefrom, a pyrotechnic time delay relay 5 electrically connected to the other end of the electric cable and operative to be ignited by the electric signal and to provide a mechanical signal after a predetermined time delay corresponding to the combustion period of the pyrotechnic relay, a transducer adapted to provide an electrical control signal in response to the mechanical signal and a starting mechanism 7 responsive to the electrical control signal from the transducer to control the start of the control mechanism or one or each of the control mechanisms. A switch 48 is provided which is operative to switch off the electrical connection between the time delay relay and the electric cable until the missile is detached from the carrier vehicle. A safety circuit 60 is provided so that a control signal accidentally produced by the transducer as a result of its receiving a shock will not operate the starting mechanism.
