Abstract

130,786. Keith, J., and Keith, G. Aug. 13, 1918. Pressure - regulating valves.-A pressure-regulating valve, particularly applicable for use with gas lighting - installations for railway carriages, and of the type actuated by a diaphragm acted on by the pressures existing on each side of a restriction in the main conduit, has the diaphragm fitted with a relief valve and has a stop valve interposed in the main conduit between the restriction and the connexion to the back of the diaphragm. The diaphragm B is connected to the valve member by the usual lever and linkage mechanism and carries a seat J<1> for a relief valve J loaded by a spring K. The relief valve may be separate from the governor transmitting- mechanism. The main conduit D is fitted with an adjustable obturator C and with a stop valve E controlling both the main passage and a pilot supply passage F. When the valve E is turned to close the main passage, no pressure is transmitted through the passage H to the back of the diaphragm, and therefore a reduced pressure is maintained in the governor casing to supply the pilot lights.
