Abstract

1307652 Multiplex pulse signalling; active delays INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 19 April 1971 [29 Jan 1970] 20167/71 Headings H3U and H4L The invention relates to a storage device which may be used in the television transmission system disclosed in Specification 1,306,467 wherein an audio signal occurring during a frame period is stored in the form of signal samples and transmitted as a time compressed signal during the frame flyback period. As shown in Fig. 1, the storage device has storage capacitors 1 to 6 which may be connected to an input signal source 59 or an output 60 by a changeover switch 19. The capacitors are connected in series with switches 7 to 12 respectively and these switches are operated sequentially by a ring counter 20 comprising elements 13 to 18. The switch 19 is operated in synchronism with a switch 22 under the control of circuit 25 controlled by line and frame sync. signals applied to terminals 26, 27 respectively. At the transmitter, with switches 19, 22 in the position shown, the input signal is fed to line 61 and the ring counter is operated at line frequency F T so that signal samples are stored in the capacitors 1 to 6 during successive line periods in a frame period. At the end of a frame period circuit 25 changes over switches 19, 22 and the ring counter is operated at a much higher frequency, F T so that the capacitors 1 to 6 are discharged successively during respective line periods in the frame flyback period. At the receiver this sequence is reversed. In a ring counter, Fig. 2. (not shown), each element 13 &c. comprises a pair of opposite type transistors, adjacent elements being operated by oppositely phased clock pulses. Alternatively, Fig. 4 not shown, IGFET transistors may be used, i.e. MOS semiconductor devices which are symmetrical.
